The Constants

con·stantnoun
1. A thing that stays the same while everything around it changes.
2. At Open Theory Labs: privacy, security and scale. Decided before the first line of code, never up for testing.

Throw the ideas around. The walls stay put.

We are comfortable being wrong about a lot. A feature, a market, a whole product direction. That is what experiments are for.

But there are a few things we decide before the first line of code and never revisit, on every engagement and every experiment, because getting them wrong is not a lesson, it is a harm to the people who trusted the product.

Never up for testingPrivacySecurityScale

01 / On every engagement and every experiment

Privacy

Your users' data stays where it belongs.

We collect the minimum, keep it in the region it came from, encrypt it at rest and in transit, and give access only to those who need it. People are told what we collect and why, in language they can understand.

02 / On every engagement and every experiment

Security

We think about how a system could be attacked while we are still designing it.

Every pipeline scans its dependencies. Secrets never live in code. We test our own defences before launch and have a plan for the day something goes wrong, written before it does.

03 / On every engagement and every experiment

Scale

Growth should be good news.

We design for the tenth customer and the ten-thousandth at the same time, test under load before release, and plan capacity rather than discover it at two in the morning.

Bring the idea. We will bring the constants.
